lack of luxury

He lies on the hard ground, but doesn't complain,
This is where he rests, sunshine or rain.
Never fully asleep, because he's always aware,
That danger could possibly lurk anywhere.
He's tired and wet, yet he knew the cost,
When he volunteered to serve, his country so lost.
He doesn't ask for the luxury of a warm bed at night,
Nor does he question the reason that he fights.
He wouldn't trade a thing for this life that he lives,
He bleeds red, white and blue and that's why he gives.
He's an American soldier first and foremost,
He'll sacrifice all that he has to stand guard at his post.
